Sickles has prided itself on carrying marvelous produce for 100 years. Starting out as a seasonal farm stand carrying local, fresh produce (mostly our own), we have evolved into a year-round market which stocks the best basic produce, as well as high-quality specialty items. We carry the finest fresh produce from around the world alongside the best quality local produce, including our own sickleberries!

In April, we will start seeing some great Jersey Produce. Asparagus, fresh from our local growers, will hopefully start towards the end of the month. Jersey spinach, another late April arrival, is the best available enjoy it raw in salad or try it blanched, boiled, or sautéed. Fresh parsley is always better than dried for cooking, and we should have it fresh from local growers. Radishes and several varieties of lettuce are still other examples of late April Jersey fresh produce.

May heralds the arrival of Jersey leeks as well as local lima beans and peas. By the end of the month we should also have eggplant and locally grown dill. The season for Jersey strawberries lasts from mid-May to mid-June – depending, of course, on the weather. Although you can get strawberries year round, you can only get Jersey berries once a year, during that time when cooking. The strawberries from our local growers are so much sweeter, juicier, and simply better, that it’s not even worth comparing. Don’t miss them!
