Sickles Market features an extensive specialty cheese department with a large selection of cheeses from all over the world. We carry the best U.S. artisanal goat’s, cow’s, and sheep’s milk cheeses as well as name-controlled cheeses from France, Italy, and Spain. We have wonderful regional cheeses from the British Isles, Switzerland, Germany, Australia, and Scandinavia. We always have familiar friends such as NY State Cheddar, Lioni Latticini Mozzarella and Tour de Marze Brie.
The selection changes seasonally and new items come in all the time. Sickles is always looking for wonderful new cheeses to tempt your taste buds. If you are not sure what to buy or simply need a taste of a new cheese, just stop by and ask our Cheese Mongers!
Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée
(AOC)
At this time only 42 French cheeses have the status of Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée, which applies to French wines, eaux-de-vie, and dairy and farmhouse products. The AOC label provides a useful market, not only of quality but also a distinction between cheeses that may be confusingly similar, such as Brie de Meaux and Brie de Melun.
The AOC label guarantees that a product of quality has been made within a specified region of France following established methods of production.
