Treats of the Spring
Spring will be a time to discover new flavors for our culinary palates. As the availability of fruit, vegetables, and foods increase, so will the opportunities to enjoy a variety of cheeses!
At this time of year, Sickles Market receives new cheeses, such as Jasper Hill Farms Winnimere. Cheese Manager, Meghan Mullaney, praises Winnimere as "the best cheese made in the USA." It is a soft cheese made from raw Ayrshire cow milk. It is formed with a washed rind of spruce bark for a woodsy flavor.
In honor of St. Patrick's Day (March 17), Sickles Market will feature several cheeses from the noble isles. Complement your favorite St. Patrick's Day meal with the cheeses of Ireland, Scotland, and England. Our cheese staff will be ready to help you pick the ideal cheese for your servings of potatoes au gratin, corned beef, and other entrees. For an appetizer, try Ditty's Walnut Oatties. This Irish treat is good alone and serves a hearty flavor for presenting creamy blue cheeses or chevre.
Easter dinners traditionally involve many types of cheese. From breads made with Pecorino Romano to savory sauces made with fresh Ricotta, the cheese department will be prepared to help you deliver the most appetizing meal. For appetizers, Meghan Mullaney recommends Creminelli Salami.
For Pesach (Passover), a few cheeses are certified Kosher. Cabot Farms cheddar cheeses are pre-packaged and kosher certified at the farm. If a kosher cheese is not available, sometimes a substitution can be made with kosher cottage cheese, kosher sour cream, or kosher cream cheese.
