Week of March 17th, 2008

March is the month that slowly gets greener and greener with each passing day. Now that daylight savings time is plugged in till November 9th and we have “sprung ahead” the days seem to rapidly get longer. Mother Nature is slowly but surely pushing out the flower buds of trees and shrubs and bulbs are now rapidly emerging from the ground. First, we saw the snow drops, next crocus, and then the myriad of daffodils followed by a torrent of tulips. The colors of spring are upon us and although it might still snow, I sure hope it does not. It is time to buy flowers, plant flowers, smell flowers, and get ready for a nice long beautiful spring watching the beauty of Earth unfold. It is in vogue for us, businesses, schools, and everything to go “green”, but Mother Nature has been doing it every year since forever.

New plants arrive in our garden center everyday to help you go green. This week all the beautiful bulbs that are coming up in everyone’s yard are now available in our greenhouse. They help decorate those dreary spaces in your house. They brighten up kitchen tables and islands, add fragrance and color to bathrooms, make great house warming and party gifts. In lavish groupings they become elegant center pieces for your Easter dinner, and are a perfect start and end to your day on your night table. The heady scent of hyacinths is my favorite and can lull just about anyone into a peaceful slumber. These pretty pots of plants are totally recyclable in your garden; carefully plant them for a repeat show next spring or just toss them in as extra organic matter, compost, and mulch. They are truly green!

Speaking of green, (which everyone is these days) we have a new reusable bag here at Sickles Market. It is a tough, washable material in very pretty colors. They are available for $4.99 or only $1.99 when you sign up for the Good Stuff Club (our new loyalty and rewards program). The Good Stuff Club is just that, all about the “good stuff!” For more info just go to our website www.sicklesmarket.com and click on the Good Stuff Club.

This weekend is Easter and we have all the “good stuff” you need for your traditional family dinner and all the rest of the “good stuff” that is not so traditional. We have ham and lamb, asparagus and rhubarb, new potatoes and old potatoes! We have great ricotta cheese and mozzarella and wonderful desserts in the bakery. There is a wonderful assortment of berries, melons, and grapes for a sumptuous fruit platter. Not enough time to cook? Order from the deli and make your dinner extra special with great food from Sickles Market!

Remember we are closed this Sunday, March 23rd in observance of the holiday.

P.S. Have you joined..."The Good Stuff Club," yet?
