I am still thinking about my favorite restaurants. Here are three of my favorite Italians. There will be more Italians as there are so many good ones in our area. First up, Anjelica’s. I have been going to Anjelica’s for a long time and it is a dear favorite. If I was to say that there was a restaurant in this area that when I go for dinner it feels like I am going home, it would be Anjelica’s on Ocean Avenue in Sea Bright. I probably have eaten there somewhere between 50 or 60 times. Sometimes it is so good I go back more often. Then, get a little bored and the restlessness sets in and I go back and it is just as it ever was. I love the pasta, the fish, the lobster (angry is great, so are the others) and especially the broccoli rabe! Anjelica’s always has beautiful simple bread on the table and wonderful home made desserts. The desserts are so good we often take them home for the kids if they are not with us, but they often are. I find Anjelica’s to be one of the most kid friendly restaurants in the area. It is a place I like to take them to teach them what good food is. Another classic favorite of my family is the chopped salad. It is simplistically delicious and healthy. Finally, do they have the longest recited list of specials in Monmouth County or what? I love it! Frank has been in charge for a while and Ray before him. For me, it is as casual, yet refined, and as fresh and delicious as it gets. If you have not been to Anjelica’s in while, then it is time to go home and enjoy their wonderful cuisine.
Finally, another fairly new restaurant for me is Francesca’s in the Highlands. This “pizza joint” has great pizza, but you should really try it for dinner. It is simple, tasty Italian food that is as reasonable as any. It is a great place for kids. It has for me that Italy “feel” and a great homey, family feel. The owner, Jack is very personable, attentive and knows his food. It is a BYO, a big plus for me. The other night we had eggplant fries, same as potatoes only eggplant. I had never had them like that before. I thought they were great served with a roasted red pepper remoulade. Just fantastic, new, fresh, and something you would not have expected. Try the pasta’s and the specials. They are doing a great job for the price. Give Francesco’s a shot. It will not be a secret for long…
Next week more of my fave’s Doris and Ed’s, Thymes Square, and Dish. There are many great restaurants in our area.
