First Day of Summer at Sickles Market

Though it may still feel like spring, June 21st was the first day of summer, the Longest Day of the Year.

This soggy weather may not be great for beach goers, but it surely yields some great opportunities for the gardener.  Have you seen how green the trees and shrubs look around your neighborhood?

This may be the best year to add new trees and shrubs to your yard.  Those first years require good watering so the roots set deep into the soil. Once the tree is grounded in the first year, most of the hurdles of a new planting are over.

Trees and Shrubs add character to a home and increase its value.  Of course, trees help the environment, too.  They provide a home for birds and provide shade.  They also play a vital role in the Oxygen Cycle.
